‘Dog Sees God: Confessions of Teenage Blockhead’ | The Footlight Theatre |August 1 – August 22, 2015
Before Easy A and the hit ABC Family series Recovery Road, there was Bert Royal’s powerful and often overwhelming modern-day, incisive spoof of the iconic Peanuts cartoon Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead. Since the play debuted in 2005, it has won numerous awards, including the “Excellence Award” for Best Overall Production at the New York International Fringe Festival, Theatermania’s “Best Play” and GLAAD Media’s award for “Best Off-Off Broadway Production.” Florida native Royal penned the parody at the age of 27, while living in New York. He went on to write the 2010 camp comedy Easy A, starring Emma Stone. His most recent project, the ABC Family upcoming series Recovery Road, which recently landed Laura San Giacomo (Pretty Woman, The Stand) and “Shocantelle Brown” herself, Laura Bell Bundy, centers around teenage addiction.
Marking ten years, the play, directed by multi-award winning actor and playwright David Lee, returns to the stage at Parliament House’s Footlight Theatre August 1 – 22.
