One Hot Minute With… Zara Larsson
At only 17, Sweden-born singer Zara Larsson is well on her way to becoming the next international pop-star. With powerhouse vocals and lyrics akin to Rihanna and Cher Lloyd, it’s no wonder she won Sweden’s Got Talent at the age of 10 and has had a slue of number 1 hits and albums throughout Sweden and Scandinavia.
Now with her U.S. debut EP Uncover, released in January, Larsson brings her haunting yet hopeful sound to a whole new audience. The EP features hits from her already successful catalog.
Most recently, Larsson made headlines after she posted to Instagram a photo of her leg sheathed in a condom with a caption busting the myth that no man is “too big” to wear condoms. Since January, the post has racked up more than 75,000 likes and ricocheted across the blogosphere.
FireDownBelowOnline.com chatted with the cosmopolitan chanteuse about the infamous photo, her take on Kanye’s Grammy behavior, and her celebrity crush.

Fire Down Below: For starters, we have to talk about your Instagram photo from January. Did you realize how much attention putting a condom on your leg would get?
Zara Larsson: No, I didn’t. I did it as a fun thing.
Obviously, you’re a fan of Celine Dion & Whitney Houston. Do you listen to your contemporaries? Who else do you like?
Yes of course! Beyoncé, Jhene Aiko, and almost everyone on the Top 40!
Achieving such grand success already at a young age, you’ve come a long way in your journey, but what would you say to readers who might be struggling in theirs?
Work hard. Hope for the best, expect the worst.
What was your reality TV/Sweden’s Got Talent experience like?
It was fun! I was there three times. I had fun, but I was nervous. People don’t think of me as ”Sweden’s-Got-Talent-Zara” which is nice, since it was such a long time ago.
I read that “Uncover” is about those who have to hide their love, like same-sex couples. What advice would you offer someone who is struggling with coming out or being bullied?
It’s so hard for me to say. I haven’t experienced this myself. Be true to yourself, surround yourself with people who love you for all your best sides and all of your flaws. If people don’t like you because you’re different, you don’t need them in your life.
I saw that you were pretty active on your Twitter page during The Grammys. What say you about the Kanye West/Beck debacle?
I don’t know. It’s Kanye and that’s his excuse ”like whatever, that’s typical Kanye.” It was disrespectful, even though some might not think that [Beck’s Morning Phase] was the ”Album of the Year,” that’s the award it won. That’s it. But I love Kanye, I think his music is awesome!
Will you be touring at all with this EP?
No, I won’t unfortunately.
How did you spend your last day off?
I laid in bed all day in my PJ’s. [Laughs]
Do you have a fellow celebrity crush?
Hmm. Yes, I’d say my crush is Dave Franco.
