James Van Der Beek & Katee Sackhoff Star in Power Rangers Short Film

James Van der Beek, best known as the golden-haired Capeside resident “Dawson Leary” on Dawson’s Creek, takes on a darker, less wholesome role in the recently released short film POWER/RANGERS. The short fan film, written and directed by Joseph Kahn, stars co-writer Van der Beek as Red Ranger turned villain “Rocky” and Battlestar Gallactica‘s Katee Sackhoff as Pink Ranger “Kimberly.” Check out the NSFW short below. It’s pretty bad-ass!

The fan film, which has already received more than 1.8 million views since being uploaded Feb. 23, has nothing to do with the actual theatrical release of Power Rangers, which is slated for July 22, 2016.

To quote director Joseph Kahn, the video is a “deboot of the Power Rangers. My take on the FAN FILM. Not a pilot, not a series, not for profit, strictly for exhibition. This is a bootleg experiment not affiliated or endorsed by Saban Entertainment or Lionsgate nor is it selling any product. I claim no rights to any of the characters (don’t send me any money, not kickstarted, this film is free).”

Van der Beek can be seen on CSI: Cyber Sundays at 10pm ET. The former star of Friends With Better Lives and Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23 will play FBI Agent Elijah Mundo, a battlefield forensics expert who’s recruited by recent Oscar winner Patricia Arquette’s Special Agent Avery Ryan.
