Lizzie Borden: A New Musical | August 23 – September 8, 2013

The newly re-imagined musical production of Lizzie Borden, from the minds of Rich Charron and Michael Wanzie, debuts at the Theatre Downtown beginning Friday, August 23.

In this latest incantation, the writers take you into a modern day setting, where the murders of Lizzie and Emma Borden’s parents are sensationalized along with the trial, by the media. Like recent events, this tale begs the question, “Is she innocent or will she get away with murder?’

The show stars the one and only power-voiced Andrea Canny as “Lizzie,” and direct from touring with Menopause: The Musical, the very talented Rebecca Fisher as sister “Emma Borden.” Also in leading roles are a fresh amazing young talent, Justin Mousseau along with highly respected opera signer/director/actor Frank McClain.

The creator and star of VarieTEASE and owner of The Venue, Blue will make a rare theatrical appearance as “Nance O’neil,” Lizzie’s love interest! Every last one of the supporting characters are played by seasoned performers who have numerous notable acting credits and/or fabulous voices including David Dorman, Alexandria Grace Williams, Darby Ballard, Karen Ham Santiago, Beki Herbach, Nick Kroger, Natalie Anne Schneider, and Joe Swanberg!

And Wanzie, himself, assures you will be blown away by the amazingly confident, poised, and gifted child actors, Kennedy Joy Forristall, Darah O’Dell, and Carly Swain.
Tony Award Winner, Kenny Howard is down from NYC to direct. The omnipresent musical director John B. deHaas offers up wonderful new arrangements for this production. Book and lyrics by co-producer Wanzie alongside long time collaborator, Charron, who composed all of the music for Lizzie.
